Hinton Ampner is an elegant country manor that sits within a tranquil garden that blends seamlessly into the surrounding landscape.Hinton Ampner's story begins with a large Tudor manor, believed to have been constructed in the 1540s ,then over the years transformed into a Victorian house by John Thomas Dutton in 1857. In the later years the house was transformed again to a neo-Georgian property .
During the Second World War,Ralph(John Dutton's grandson) offered Hinton Ampner to be used by the Portsmouth Day School for Girls and with 48 hours' notice the principal rooms were cleared of furniture and carpets, ready for the arrival of 100 camp beds.
When the house was returned to him in 1945, decorating restarted, although rationing meant that permission had to be sought on a room-by-room basis.
After a catastrophic fire in 1960, Ralph Dutton, the last owner, lovingly rebuilt the house into its current condition.
Enjoy beautifully expansive rooms which are decorated with a beautiful collection of ceramics and art, while each rooms window offers an amazingly undisturbed view across the tranquil countryside.
Gorgeously manicured lawns lead to avenues of beautifully sculptured topiary, along borders filled with the succulent scent of roses, leading onto breathtaking views across the South Downs.
