Mompesson House

As you visit the 300 year old Mompesson House you step back into a past world. Mompesson was the setting for the film Sense and Sensibility and has a warm, inviting atmosphere where multiple families have called Mompesson their ‘home’.

There is a sense of sensibiltiy and tranquillity which is enhanced by the house's magnificent plasterwork, elegant oak staircase, fine period furniture, which all define the house as quintessentially a Queen Anne townhouse.

The house's former resident, Barbara Townsend, has her fine collection of watercolours displayed here and also displayed at Mompesson is one of the finest collections of 18th century, English drinking glasses.

Mompesson's garden is designed with its traditional herbaceous borders and open pergola where the visitor can gaze across an oasis of calm and tranquility. Within the house there is a wonderful tea room and a well stocked, well presented book shop.

After Mompesson House, enjoy a few hours in Salisbury - Traditional. Original. Captivating.

A beautiful Cathedral city of ageless beauty and captivating history, Salisbury has been welcoming travellers since 1227.

At the heart of the city stands Salisbury Cathedral, a beacon that has attracted visitors for centuries and continues to do so to this day. Gathered around the Cathedral is a modern, medieval city, full of buildings crafted with the care of bygone eras. Here, history is brought to life by modern and original events, culture, and activities.
