Belvoir Castles history dates back to the eleventh century. It is the ancestral home of the Duke of Rutland, where the family have lived in an unbroken line for almost a thousand years.
The Castles turrets and towers rise over the Vale of Belvoir .The name Belvoir meaning beautiful view in French, and pronounced today as beaver dates back to Norman times.
Today, Belvoir Castle is said by experts to be one of the finest examples of Regency architecture in the country.
In addition, the gardens have undergone several major changes over the centuries the latest being a two-year restoration programme by the present Duchess to bring the lost plans of Capability Brown back to life in 2016.
The castle and surrounding parkland play host to a range of country pursuits, organised events etc, as well as featuring in films including the Da Vinci Code and Young Victoria.
